Free State Kitchen on Maryland Street, just off Hope Street, is a low-key US-style diner serving wings, burgers and fries. It has what it calls Liverpool's best outdoor dining space — a secret garden with a terrace — plus a children's menu, and staff happy to accommodate buggies and high chairs. Dogs are welcome in the garden.
